Entry requirements

125 credits. Structural Optimisation for Additive Manufacturing I. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

After completed course the student should be able to:

  • assessing the role and function of constraints in a minimization problem,
  • applying different methods in filtering and sensitivity analysis,
  • programming different techniques in topology optimization for solving engineering problems,
  • perform stiffness and topology optimizations for engineering designs,
  • apply optimization methods in designs to be manufactured by a commercial 3-D printer.

Content

The aim of this course is applying numerical algorithms for stiffness and topology optimizations, especially by means of the additive manufacturing methods.

Convex programming with multipliers for involving constraints. Specific examples will be applied in direct connection with the additive manufacturing process. evelopment of optimization codes in a simple programming language, such as Python. Developed optimization codes will be applied in solving technical problems for additive manufacturing applications and for performing stiffness analysis and topology optimization.

Instruction

Lectures, lessons, laboratory work.

Assessment

Written exam (2 credits). Hand-in assignments (3 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
