Learning outcomes

After completion the course, a student is expected to:

- have knowledge about basic concepts and views in the statistics

- have basic theoretical knowledge in probability theory and inference that is the foundation for statistical methods.

- own ability to apply statistical methods for collection, processing and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data particularly such linked to the field of Economy, Business and Social Science

- be able to review research reports and conclusions critically based on statistical data

- be able to present results of statistical studies

- be able to use some standard program for computer processing of statistical data.

Content

Graphical descriptive methods and numerical descriptive measures. Data collection and sampling methods. Elementary probability theory, discrete and continuous probability distributions. Sampling distributions. Introduction to estimation. Introduction to parametric and non-parametric hypothesis test. Analysis of relationship between variables.

Instruction

Teaching is given in the form of plenary lectures supplemented by lessons and computer introduction in small groups. In all, teaching 6-10 is given hours a week.

Assessment

The examination takes place both through a written examination at the end of the course and through a number compulsory assignments.

The course can not be included in a higher education qualification where the course, A8, Statistics for economics is included.
