Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student is expected to:

be able to write two-part counterpoint in different sixteenth-century idioms,

have a basic knowledge and understanding of the repertoire of sixteenth-century vocal polyphony.

Content

Basic course in counterpoint in different sixteenth-century styles

Instruction

The teaching is web-based. Some personal tuition may be offered. The course can be taken as a distance learning module. Literature: 'Peter Schubert's 'Modal Counterpoint, Renaissance Style', 2nd edn. (OUP, 2008).

Assessment

Continuous examination of submitted assignments and exercises.
