    • G1F: has less than 60 credits in first-cycle course/s as entry requirements
    • G1E: contains specially designed degree project for Higher Education Diploma
    • G2F: has at least 60 credits in first-cycle course/s as entry requirements
    • G2E: has at least 60 credits in first-cycle course/s as entry requirements, contains degree project for Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science
    • GXX: in-depth level of the course cannot be classified

    Second cycle

    • A1N: has only first-cycle course/s as entry requirements
    • A1F: has second-cycle course/s as entry requirements
    • A1E: contains degree project for Master of Arts/Master of Science (60 credits)
    • A2E: contains degree project for Master of Arts/Master of Science (120 credits)
    • AXX: in-depth level of the course cannot be classified

  • Grading system: Fail (U), Pass (3), Pass with credit (4), Pass with distinction (5)

  • Applies from: Autumn 2011
  • Entry requirements:
  • Responsible department: Department of Materials Science and Engineering

Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student should be able to

  • explain comprehensively the manufacture chain applied in the traditional industry,
  • describe different methods for: forming, cutting, welding, and unusual machining methods,
  • explain how limits of different machining processes are related to material properties,
  • describe different measurement methods, measurement tools and devices, and use form and position tolerance,
  • make simple calculations of force, needed power, cost, select appropriate tools and cutting data, and make simple structural design of pressing tool.

Content

Plastic processing: Analysis of energy, power and force requirements for e.g. forging, pressing, bending, and thread and plate production.

Cutting processing: Analysis of cutting procedures, tool wear and life length, with an emphasis on lathing, cutting, drilling and grinding.

Welding: Arc and gas welding.

Production technical measurement methods: Measurement gear, gauges, jigs, measurement devices and modern measurement machines.

Unusual machining methods such as: FFF, spark machining EDM and EDWC, Electrochemical machining (ECM), laser and liquid jet cutting.
