Learning outcomes

After completion of the course the student shall be able to

  • describe the Earth's global and regional climate
  • explain the interaction between climate and landscape dynamics in global climate and environmental change
  • describe land use and climate i tropical areas
  • describe the heating of the polar regions and how this affects permafrost areas
  • explain the principles of energy exchange between the earth's surface and the atmosphere

Content

The course reviews the following topics: regional climate systems across the globe; regional climate couplings to landscape dynamics and development; the dynamic landscape-climate system and land use under global change; local scale surface-atmosphere energy exchange.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars, and independent study.

Assessment

Written and oral presentation of results. The course is graded using a written examination, 6 credits, and compulsory activities, 4 credits.
