Entry requirements
Bachelor's degree within science, technology or social science. Proficiency in English (see link: Eligibility requirements).
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- understand different dimensions of Sustainable development on a local, regional and global scale;
- critically relate to and value different definitions and indicators of Sustainable development;
- define and evaluate ethical questions with relevance for sustainable development;
- critically relate to and value different actors’ visions of a sustainable future and different strategies to attain a sustainable society.
Content
The concept of Sustainable development: history, definitions, indicators and approaches. Sustainable development from an ecological, social and economical standpoint. Sustainable development on a local, regional and global scale. Personal and societal visions of a sustainable future; strategies and goals. Up-to-date environmental and developmental issues.
Instruction
The teaching consists of guest lectures, seminars and workshops. The lectures are given by guest lecturers from different academic disciplines and other relevant societal sectors. The teaching method is based on active student participation and critical thinking.
Assessment
Students are examined through written papers and active participation in seminars and guest lectures (5 credits).
