General provisions
The course is given in Master's Programme in Entrepreneurship.
Entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. Proficiency in English.
In addition, to be eligible students are required to have been registered on 30 credits within the programme, of which at least 15 credits must be passed.
Learning outcomes
The course builds on the theoretical and conceptual foundations of entrepreneurship to let participants work on real-life business cases. During the course, participants will work on developing their own business ideas or become part of other entrepreneurial ventures, and advance their skills in translating academic knowledge into practical entrepreneurship.
The course allows participants to:
- convert and apply theoretical and conceptual knowledge about entrepreneurship into practical entrepreneurship
- identify and deal with the challenges associated with the development of new business opportunities or business ventures
- gain a deeper understanding of the connections between academic and practical applications of entrepreneurship, and identify both areas of agreement and areas that are open for further research.
Content
Within the framework of the course, participants will be engaged in the development of a new business idea or business venture. The course gives participants the option to choose between two different tracks:
- The development of an own business idea. This work includes becoming engaged in the practical aspects of launching and developing the new venture.
- An internship at a start-up or established company, specifically geared towards active engagement in a new business venture.
Instruction
This course rests primarily on the participants' individual engagement in practical entrepreneurship, either in the context of launching and developing new business ideas or contributing to ongoing entrepreneurial activities within already established companies. The participants' engagement in practical entrepreneurial activities is complemented by a series of workshops and/or mentoring sessions. The format and contents of these workshops and mentoring sessions may be adapted to fit the specific requirements of individual projects. All workshop and mentoring activities end after conclusion of the course.
The course is taught in English.
Assessment
The student will get one single grade, equivalent to 15 credits.
Examination takes the form of a written assignment. Grading criteria are presented in the study guide that applies to the course section. The following grades will be used: pass with distinction (VG), pass (G), and fail (U). Examinations handed in late will not be assessed except under special circumstances. Any remaining supplemental work must be completed and handed in by the deadline specified in the study guide. Otherwise the entire course (all examinations included) must be retaken during subsequent course sections.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
Uppsala University does not accept cheating or plagiarism. Suspected incidents of cheating or plagiarism are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, which may issue a formal warning to the student or suspend the student from studies for a certain period.
NOTE: Only completed courses can count toward a degree.
