Entry requirements

120 credits in science/engineering. The courses "Additive Manufacturing in Polymeric Materials" and "Additive Manufacturing in Metallic and Ceramic Materials" should have been attended. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • explain and with guidance perform the steps that are part of a business-specific additive manufacturing chain,
  • describe the process from design and raw materials to final product in a specific business,
  • analyze and motivate strategic process choices based on, for example, product portfolio, business area, existing production systems and economical aspects,
  • discuss how the manufacturing chain is adapted for different types of businesses and products.

Content

Project course partly on-site outside Uppsala University, at various companies or institutes. Practical work and analysis of the process chain. Design and modelling using available software. Preparations for printing. Raw material handling. The printing process. Part removal. Post processing. How the chain of production may be adapted for different types of activities and products, and justify these adaptations.

Assessment

Written report (4 hp) and seminar (1 hp).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
