Decisions and guidelines

The course is part of the Master's Programme in Sociology of Education and the Master's Programme in Educational Sciences with a Specialisation in Sociology of Education. It can also be given as an independent course.

Learning outcomes

After completion of the course students are expected to be able to:

  • describe new modes of governance in education and analyse how they affect contemporary educational systems
  • compare the transformation of educational systems in different countries and analyse differences and similarities in structure, organisation and usage
  • analyse how the re-organisation of educational systems in terms of marketisation, privatisation, and internationalisation has changed the conditions for institutions, professions and social groups
  • give short oral presentations

Content

The course deals with contemporary transformations of educational systems in different countries. It focuses particularly on the emergence of new modes of governance, marketisation, privatisation and internationalisation and how these have changed the conditions for educational institutions, professions and social groups.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars and workshops.

Assessment

The assessment is based on oral and written assignments.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
