About the course

The course provides fundamental knowledge about the nervous system, ranging from synapses and communication between nerve cells to complex functions such as emotion and cognition. While focusing on human neurobiology, also a comparison between species is included.

The course includes both anatomy and function, for example, the different cell types, neurotransmitters, neurotransmission, the central (brain and spinal cord) and peripheral nervous systems, sensory and motor functions, the concept of neuronal circuitries, reward- and aversion circuitries, learning and memory, pain- and appetite regulation. Furthermore, the course deals with how these functions are integrated into behaviour and skills, as well as knowledge gained from various types of disorders that affect the nervous system and different bodily functions.
