About the course

If you have a foreign degree in psychology and want to work as a licensed psychologist in Sweden, the complementary programme is a way of achieving a Swedish licence.

The programme is primarily intended for applicants with a degree from outside the EU/EEA, whose qualifications have not previously been recognised in an EU/EEA country. Applicants with a degree from the EU/EEA, are in most cases able, via the National Board of Health and Welfare, to get their degrees recognised in Sweden without having to get additional training.

Individuals with a degree from outside the EU/EEA also have the possibility to obtain a Swedish licence through a proficiency test, carried out by the National Board of Health and Welfare.

The complementary programme is given at Uppsala University, Lund University and Umeå University.

Content

The programme comprises a maximum of 90 credits and contains theoretical studies with practical elements. Your previous knowledge in psychology is integrated with new knowledge. The studies take into account your previous education and work experience. The goal is for you to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for the psychology profession in Sweden and to be able to apply for an internship.

The language of education is Swedish with a large part of the literature in English. To complete the programme, it is essential that you speak both Swedish and English.

The programme does not lead to a degree.
