About the course

We are all cognitively related, in various ways, to ourselves: I know what I am thinking now, and I remember what I thought yesterday; I am sure I am in pain at the moment the nettles touch my bare arm; I would like to become a more patient person; I sometimes struggle to understand my own moods and motivations. Some forms of self-relations seem fairly primitive, and we share them with animals: an elk "knows" where its antlers are, much like I am directly aware of the position of my body-parts. Others belong to a being that can conceptualise them and set goals for the future. Some seem direct and privileged, others more complicated. These are some of the topics we look at in this course.
