About the course

Old Irish represents the language of Ireland from roughly 600 to 900 A.D. An extensive body of literature was written in Old Irish during this period, making it the oldest and best-represented vernacular language of Western Europe. This course will introduce you to the language and enable you to read elementary texts in the original.

Outline for distance course: The distance course is based on self-study and communication through the web-based learning environment, which contains all information regarding the course and course activities. Teaching takes the form of study instructions and exercises, as well as optional weekly question-and-answer sessions. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required to follow the course since all teaching and examinations are done online. Taking a distance course means that you yourself largely determine when you study since you are not as tied to scheduled classes. Note, however, that this kind of course requires as much effort as an ordinary campus course and that it is equally important to meet set deadlines.
