About the course
Building upon Digital Sculpting 1, Digital Sculpting 2 will explore the development of 3D characters through sculpting and texture painting.
From the initial scoping, through the refinement of their concepts, to the presentations of finished creative projects, you will be involved in both the technical and artistic aspects of bringing your digital characters to life. Throughout the course, you will work on improving form, resolution, mesh integrity and readability. Anatomy for the design of humanoid and non-humanoid characters will be covered to an extent. Mesh planning will be part of the workflow.
Another necessary component in creating convincing characters is context. Characters require things to act upon and roles to play. The sculpting design projects undertaken during the course will include props of various sorts, such as clothing, fur and hair. In the final stages of sculpting, you will learn to support your characters with high-frequency, photo-realistic surface treatments like pores, wrinkles, scars etc. Different techniques will include applying texturing, light, and shadow to create atmosphere and context.
Outline for distance course: The course is net-based and has no mandatory physical meetings. To follow the course, you will need a computer with internet connection.
