  • Entry requirements:

    A Bachelor's degree and, in addition at least 30 credits in data science at Master's level, including the necessary courses at Master's level for the project and Project in Data Science. Admission requires a project plan accepted by the department. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course the student shall be able to

  • plan and carry out individual project work in the field of data science within given time frames,
  • critically analyze an open problem, formulate sub-problems, and find and choose solutions to these,
  • independently seek, evaluate and use scientific and technical information to achieve project objectives,
  • demonstrate a workable solution to a complex data science task, and show that it meets the given specification,
  • make assessments taking into account relevant scientific, societal and ethical aspects in the application of data science,
  • present, in writing and orally, prerequisites, argue for the chosen solution method and present results,
  • give constructive criticism of others' texts in the main area.


Independent degree project at a data science company or research lab.


Lectures, project work, supervision.


For a passing grade, an approved oral and written presentation of the degree project is required. The written presentation must consist of a scientific report, a popular science summary and a summary in English. In order to be approved, the student must also have opposed another degree project in data science

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
