Decisions and guidelines

Selectable program course, Nursing Programme, term 5, Uppsala University.
Independent course for other participants according to the eligibility requirement upon availability.
Consists of theoretical studies during study weeks 11-15.
The course is entirely IT- based.
The course will be given if required in English.

Learning outcomes

After the course the student should:

  • Analyse and evaluate events nationally and globally that is affecting health for children, women and families.
  • Analyse, evaluate and implement planning of nursing with perspective from scientific, ethical, national and global aspects, and human rights including the Convention of the Children's Rights.

Content

CARING SCIENCES WITH A FOCUS ON NURSING AND MEDICAL SCIENCES
Themes highlighted in a national and global perspective

  1. Children and young people's rights, gender/equality issues and its impact on health.
  2. Ill health and promotion of health in connection with childbirth and its impact on the child and the woman: maternity care, neonatal care, children's health, growth and nutrition.
  3. Physical and mental ill health and promoting health in children and adolescents: protective factors and risk factors, existential pain, children's vulnerability and needs.

Instruction

WORKING CONTENTS
Web lectures in each theme.
Work in groups of 5-7 students in each group.
Discussion on the student portal within each theme.
An assignment of writing a PM.
Review of a PM.
One seminar physical or by Adobe Connect.
Literature including policy documents and articles.
The student should have access to a computer with webcam and Internet connection with good performance.

IMPLEMENTING
Teaching takes place at full time for five weeks.
Study week 1-3: Web lectures that illustrate each theme from a national and global perspective in order to highlight similarities and differences. Participate in discussions by making entries in the Student portal's discussion forum.
Study week 4: Write a PM and prepare the seminar.
Study week 5: Review of PM. Participate in the seminar physically or via Adobe Connect.

Assessment

Examination of the seminar performance, assignment of writing a PM and the review of a PM. Examination is done according to the guidelines of the nursing programme with a maximum of 5 times per student.
