Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • identify, classify and analyse geological field data
  • link these data to appropriate environments of earth Science
  • collect relevant data in the field
  • treat and interpret such data, and present analyses to potential employers and in scientific contexts


Mapping or equivalent field work in an environment appropriate for the scientific field. Compilation of maps, eventual profiles and interpretations in a report. Training in communication is an integrated part of the course.


Lectures, field work and practicals.


Written report with maps, diagrams and description/interpretation.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.

Other directives

The field course will cause costs for travel and accommodation for the student.
