On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
account for and explain theories and tools used in the field of project management,
account for different types of projects and their characteristics,
assess appropriate planning and coordination methodology in relation to the project's scope and type,
analyse projects and project execution from the perspective of different stakeholders within the focal organisation as well as external stakeholders from other parts of society.
The course focuses on planning, controlling and leading projects within several industrial areas. The course is also emphasising projects as an organisational form, the relationship between the project and the organisation and the connection between the scope of the project and the overall strategy of the organisation. During the course, the student will theoretically learn about project planning, the project organisation, financial control and project management. Several real-life cases from the industry will be presented by professional project managers from different areas of the industrial sector, from the construction industry to LifeScience and management consulting, in the form of guest lectures.
The course is mainly based on lectures where the student will receive both theoretical and practical knowledge about project management. Initially, the lectures will mainly be based on the course book, while the second part of the course will consist of guest lectures given by project management professionals. The course also contains one group assignment which will be examined at a seminar.
Written examination ( 3 credits) and a group assignment ( 2 credits).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
