Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • describe the design stage of the construction process and related documents,
  • produce simple drawings according to selected standards,
  • independently create models and present building documents in a system for Building Information Modelling (BIM),
  • use the computer programs and systems required in the introductory courses of the programme,
  • retrieve and interpret information regarding construction documents from different disciplines.

Content

Introduction to the University's computer systems and networks. The various stages of the building process as well as actors in terms of drawing techniques in a construction project. Construction Standards and drawing techniques in projects. Introduction to basic principles of Computer-Aided Design (CAD). Introduction to Building Information Modelling (BIM), both as a virtual prototype and a working method, as well as the theoretical differences between the working methods of CAD and BIM designs. Drawing rules. Construction documents from different disciplines. The planning process as part of the construction process.

Instruction

Lectures, exercises and group work.

Assessment

Presentation of exercises (1 credit), written and oral presentation of groupwork (2 credits) as well as written examination (2 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
