Decisions and guidelines

The course is given in Master's Programme in Entrepreneurship.

Learning outcomes

The course introduces a set of strategic tools for business development in the already established corporation. It specifically deals with various forms of renewal that complement traditional intrapreneurial processes, giving participants a broadened toolkit for business development and the pursuit of a successful career as business developers.

Having completed the course, participants will have broadened their understanding of the nature of corporate entrepreneurship and the challenges of renewal in already established corporation. From a practical point of view, participants will know how to:

  • create and implement new business ventures through the establishment of new venture units
  • develop the corporation's capacity for renewal through corporate venture capital investments
  • develop and implement new business ventures through open innovation
  • plan and implement corporate renewal through acquisitions
  • create and manage structures for intrapreneurship in the international corporation.

While based on theory, conceptual frameworks, and empirical findings from corporate entrepreneurship and neighbouring fields of research, the course has a practical orientation. Particular emphasis is placed on developing the participants' abilities to broaden the sources of renewal within already established corporations.

The main contents and core issues include but are not necessarily limited to: The pre-conditions for corporate renewal through the establishment of new venture units, corporate venture capital, open innovation, acquisitions, and intrapreneurship in the international corporation.

Teaching involves a set of lectures, exercises, and case discussions. It may also involve extracurricular activities and guest lectures on the core topics of the course. The course is taught in English.

The student will get one single grade, equivalent to 7.5 credits.

Examination takes the form of a written assignment and the assessment of class participation. The final grade of the course is determined after taking into account the different parts of the examination.

Grading criteria are presented in the study guide that applies to the course section. The following grades will be used: pass with distinction (VG), pass (G), and fail (U). Examinations handed in late will not be assessed except under special circumstances. Any remaining supplemental work must be completed and handed in by the deadline specified in the study guide. Otherwise the entire course (all examinations included) must be retaken during subsequent course sections.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.

Uppsala University does not accept cheating or plagiarism. Suspected incidents of cheating or plagiarism are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, which may issue a formal warning to the student or suspend the student from studies for a certain period.

NOTE: Only completed courses can count toward a degree.
