The Sculptors' Association celebrates 50 years with several exhibitions as part of the project Sculpture as a Peaceful Instrument. In the Botanical Garden, they will display around 20 works that in various ways address the challenges our society faces. The guiding words for the exhibition in Uppsala come from the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau: “The fruits of the earth belong to everyone, but the earth belongs to no one.” The exhibition opens on Saturday, July 4 at 11 a.m. and can be seen in the areas around Linneanum until September 6.
Sculpture has at all times been a means of expressing what concerns humans and their living conditions. Daily, we encounter this art form in our immediate environment. It exists on streets and squares, in school environments, and in other public contexts. What is the first to fall in a dictatorship? Yes, the large monuments of the dictator. What is erected as strength and support after disasters? Yes, the monuments and sculptures as support for the collective memory.
We live in a polarized and troubled time. The project Sculpture as a Peaceful Instrument is about using sculpture as a means to address the challenges our society faces. Through the project, they want to engage children, youth, and adults in the necessary work for an open, peaceful, and democratic society.
The Sculptors' Association's anniversary program consists of sculpture exhibitions, workshops, interactive projects, and much more around Sweden on the theme of peace and democracy.

The Sculptors' Association
The Sculptors' Association was founded in 1975 and is an organisation for professional sculptors in Sweden. The Association's overall task is to promote sculptors' interests and work for the role of sculpture in society.
