Gendering Nature: Exploring Concepts of the Non-Human in Literature and Culture
- Date: 19 February 2025, 13:15–15:00
- Type: Workshop
- Organiser: Uppsala universitet
- Contact person: Jenny Helin
Does nature have a gender? Does it have a sexuality? How do our ways of thinking about the non-human in terms of gender influence our relationships with social and ecological environments? This workshop invites you to explore these questions by delving into fiction from Scandinavia and the Anglophone world.
We will adopt an affirmative perspective, examining how the various aesthetic and ideological aspects of these texts enable us to think and act.
In preparation for the workshop, participants are encouraged to reflect on the questions in the first paragraph. You may write down a few thoughts, or present them visually or through a multimodal expression.
The workshop will be led by Per Esben Svelstad, professor of Norwegian with an emphasis on literature and literary education, NTNU in Trondheim.
“Eftermiddagsfika” will be served. Please register before 17 February so we know how much to order.
Welcome!
