Housing, travel and booking
The station can be used by both researchers and students but also by other actors who work with the environment and sustainability.
The hire rates depend on the premises and equipment used. That is, charges will be based on the use of experimental hall, temperature-controlled rooms, brackish water supply, office workspace and accommodation.
The cost item "experimental hall" refers to access to a part of the hall. If the research requires a flow-through of brackish water or access to a temperature-controlled room, etc, this will be charged for.
There are two rooms for overnight accommodation, each with four beds. There is a shower room.
How to get to here
The research station is situated in Ar in the parish of Fleringe in northern Gotland.
There is no public transport route that goes all the way to Ar, so you will have to get here by car or ask someone to pick you up at the bus station in Lärbro or Fårösund. The research station is an approximately 15-minute drive from Fårösund, 25 minutes from Lärbro, while from Visby it takes about 1 hour to drive to the station.
If you enjoy cycling, it takes about 3 hours to get to the station from Campus Gotland.

The surroundings
The Ar Research Station is in the parish of Fleringe in northern Gotland, situated between the Baltic Sea and Lake Bästeträsk. As well as being Gotland’s largest lake, Lake Bästeträsk is also part of Gotland’s largest nature reserve.
Blå lagunen (The Blue Lagoon) close to the Bästeträsk and the station, is one of Gotland’s most famous swimming spots.
The village Fårösund, and the ferry to the island of Fårö, is an approximately 15-minute drive from the station.
Some advice
You should bring your own towels, bed linen and pillowcases (pillows, duvets and blankets are provided).
Other useful things to bring: Notebook, thermos flask, warm clothes, wellington boots, rainwear and indoor shoes. Since the station is directly adjacent to water (the Baltic, Lake Bästeträsk and the “Blue Lagoon”), we also recommend that you bring swimwear. And don’t forget your binoculars, if you have a pair!
The station’s kitchen has everything you need to prepare and cook your own food. Don’t forget, however, to bring your own supplies with you. If you don’t shop in Visby, there are supermarkets in Fårösund and Lärbro, about 20 minutes by car from Ar.
