The edited volume Résistance, alternance, souveraineté is a political ethnography on the crisis and political transition in Mali from 2020 onwards. The starting point is the analysis of citizen mobilizations against the regime of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, its fall in August 2020, and the negotiations that led to two political transitions (from September 2020 to May 2021; from May 2021 to the present day).
A team of researchers from the research lab LACET conducted research in the streets of Bamako, and Sikasso, in the midst of the action. Through dense ethnographic analyses, this collective book demonstrates that even if the discourse of "a new Mali" (Mali kura) has become a popular slogan, the political practices of "the old Mali" (Mali koro) remain.
