Theme of the seminar is Conflict over space in rapidly growing cities:
Forced evictions and housing insecurity in Africa.
The seminar presenters are:
Prof. Kristine Höglund, Department of Peace and Conflict Research,
Dr. Emma Elfversson and Dr. Camille Pellerin, Department of Government, Uppsala University.
This seminar will address forced evictions, housing insecurity, and the politics of space in the context of urban growth and transformation in Nairobi (Kenya) and Addis Ababa (Ethiopia).
Höglund and Elfversson will present research from two low-income settlements in Nairobi (Korogocho and Kawangware) examining how housing security intersect with political and intergroup conflict. Pellerin will present research from two inner-city neighborhoods, Piassa and Kasanchis, examining the politics of forced evictions linked to urban renewal interventions in Ethiopia’s capital.
