Visit of a University from Côte d'Ivoire

Monday 7 April-Tuesday 8 April 2025, Uppsala University's Forum for Africa Studies received a visit by a delegation from the Université Jean Lorougnon Guédé (UJLoG), Daloa, Côte d'Ivoire. The delegation was led by Professor Viviane Adohi Krou, President of this Ivoirian University.

The visit of the Université Jean Lorougnon Guédé (UJLoG) of Daloa, Côte d’Ivoire was hosted by Uppsala University’s Forum for Africa Studies. It took place Monday 7 April to Thursday 10 April 2025 (7-8 April at UU, and 9-10 April at SLU). The Côte d’Ivoire delegation was composed of four officials: Prof. Viviane Adohi-Krou, President of the Université Jean Lorougnon Guédé of Daloa, Head of the Delegation; Prof. Issiaka Koné, Vice-President in charge of External Relations; Prof. Sidiky Bakayoko, Deputy Secretary General; and Prof. Karidia Traoré-Ouattara, Director of the Institut Universitaire d’Ingénierie du Paysage et du Bois. Dr. Syna Ouattara, Researcher at the School of Global Studies, University of Gothenburg, and one of the facilitaors of the visit participated on Monday 7 April.

The purpose of the visit was to establish contact with leaders of these universities in order to learn about their experiences in the following domains: Agroforestry and technological innovations; Wood industry and valorisation of forest sub-products; Agroforestry and food security in the context of climate change; Migrations; and Urban lands and landscapes.

The delegation had a susbstantial working session with the Forum for Africa Studies, inlcuding Prof. Sten Hagberg, Prof. Kajsa Ahlstrand, Dr. Jennifer Lorin, Dr. Kajsa Hallberg Adu, Dr. Jecinta Okumu, and Dr. Oulia Makkonen. It also had a working vist with International Science Programme (ISP), notably Dr. Bengt-Ove Turesson, Prof. Carla Puglia, and Ms. Ulrica Ouline.

At Nordic Africa Institute the delegation visited the library with Chief Librarian Ms. Åsa Lund Moberg, and had a session with Senior Research Dr. Jesper Bjarnesen.

The visit also included a guided tour of the University Museum, as well as attending the French-speaking LACET Virtual Seminar bringing together Burkinabe, Malian, and Swedish researchers.

Between 9 and 10 April, the visit took place at SLU hosted by SLU Global's Dr. Ioannis Dimitriou.
