Africa Days at Uppsala University 9-10 June 2025
The first Africa Days were organized by the Forum for Africa Studies 9-10 June 2025 under the theme "Strenghening Research Collaborations with Africa in Challenging Times."
The programme included a diverse mix of themes and participants, e.g. update from UU's Africa Initiatives with Vice-Chancellor Anders Hagfeldt, presentations of the Uppsala School for Africa Studies pdf, 2 MB., and a mapping of UU's African engagements. Other sessions concerned early career scholars, a keynote by George Bob-MIlliar on Democracy and Academic Spaces, research presentations (Anthropology, AI, Global health) from the three disciplinary domains at Uppsala University, as well as the much anticipated screening of the awarded film Katanga – the dance of the scorpions by the Burkinabe film-maker Dani Kouyaté, Uppsala resident and affiliated teacher to the Forum. We also hosted a session on collaborative opportunities within Uppsala University, as well as neigbouring SLU Global, and the Nordic Africa Institute.
Some 150 people attend the Africa Days. This is a great beginning. Next year we will do this again. Stay tuned.
