Uppsala Researchers at ECAS2025@Prague

A dozen of Uppsala researchers attended the European Conference on African Studies in Prague, 25-28 June 2025 on the theme "African, Afropean, Afropolitan." The Forum for Africa Studies sponsored a panel organized by Sten Hagberg (Uppsala University) and Rosa de Jorio (University of North Florida, Jacksonville), entitled "Tracing Afropolitanism in West Africa: Historical and Anthropological appraches to current debates" with papers by Yaouaga Félix Koné (Institut des Sciences Humaines, Bamako), Joseph Hellweg (Flora State University, Tallahassee), Harriet Boateng Aduako (University of Utrecht), as well as the papers by Hagberg and de Jorio. The panel marked a key step of Professor Koné's one month research visit to Uppsala, Bayreuth, and Prague.

Other Uppsala researchers who attended the ECAS2025 included Adelaida Caballero, Ashleigh Harris, Emy Lindberg, Nadia Lovell, Jennifer Lorin, and Carl Rommel, as well as two Malian researchers affiliated to Forum: Bintou Koné (Bayreuth University, and Institut des Sciences Humaines, Bamako), and Lamine Savané (University of Ségou). Uppsala was furthermore well represented as neighbouring Nordic Africa Institute had also a strong delegation of research, communcation, and librarian staff.

More info on ECAS2025 will follow shortly. Meanwhile, look at some conference photos. Enjoy many more on our Facebook page.

Next ECAS will take place in Lisbon 30 June-3 July 2027. We hope to have even stronger Uppsala University participation then. Stay tuned.
