ASAU attends Agri4D at SLU, 23-25 Sept 2025

ASAU African Students Association Uppsala, represented by the deputy chairperson of the association, Tendai Abiola Dhodho, participated in the recently concluded Agri4D conference Programme for Agri4D 2025 | slu.se held at SLU Ultuna. The theme was “Nurturing Regenerative Food Systems in a Changing Climate”, with sub-themes on empowering the next generation of leaders, transforming food systems through innovation, and promoting equity, justice, and resilience.

The conference emphasized cross-sector collaboration, intergenerational dialogue, and inclusive approaches, encouraging solutions that integrate social, economic, and environmental dimensions. The visuals and examples, including African markets and agricultural landscapes, resonated deeply, reflecting the realities and resilience of communities we work with in Africa.

During the conference, ASAU presented the following:

  • The story of traditional sustainable livelihoods in Africa, highlighting how communities historically depended on agriculture, barter trade, natural resources, and local knowledge.
  • Current challenges, including climate stress, biodiversity loss, disease outbreaks, and high youth unemployment, which threaten food security and resilience.
  • Opportunities for youth engagement and innovation, showing how ASAU unites African talents across the continent and Sweden, connecting research with practice to drive climate-smart solutions and social impact.
  • ASAU’s solutions, including empowering youth with tools and training, supporting women- and elder-led households, and translating research into practical, community-focused projects.

The presentation highlighted the importance of bridging African and Swedish research institutions, leveraging partnerships with Uppsala University, Forum for Africa Studies, and SLU Global to scale initiatives and create tangible impact. Rea
