AI and transformation at African Research Universities Alliance Biannual Conference in Uganda

29 September - 31 October, Forum for Africa Studies was represented at the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) Biannual Conference at Makerere University. Kajsa Hallberg Adu and David Sumpter represented UU and the CoRE AI - Cluster of Research Excellence in AI and with colleagues from the continent and beyond discussed how Africa’s transformation can be realized through research and AI.

Hon Dr Monica Musenero Masanza, Uganda’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation opened the conference and critiqued the publish or perish idea.

“Yes, it’s the universities’ output, but so is the economy of your country. We need to address our needs…What must we change?”

The Core AI hosted two special sessions: one showing the width of our work “From sustainable development to quantum physics” the second about what they call the Afrofeminist approach to AI.
