ENLIGHT and African Engagements

Monday 26 Jan-Tuesday 27 Jan, the ENLIGHT Expert Network on Africa, officially recognized in July 2025, met at the University of Ghent, discussing the next steps in enhancing ENLIGHT European University's collaboration with African higher education institutions. Prof. Sten Hagberg participated in the meeting on behalf of the Forum for Africa Studies. Other participants were also people with strong and long-term engagements in Africa, representing the universities of Bordeaux, Groningen, Galway, Bern, and the host Ghent.

The expert network is a very diverse group, composed of administrative staff from International Offices and Research Affairs Offices and academics leading large Africa-related initiatives, all focused on stimulating equitable, reciprocal and sustainable partnerships with our African partners.

Concrete initiatives are being developed to enable the collaboration between ENLIGHT as an alliance and its African partners, and amongst member universities focusing on the continent. Stay tuned.

ENLIGHT, a European University alliance of ten research-intensive universities, stands for European university Network to promote equitable quality of Life, sustaInability and Global engagement through Higher education Transformation.
