Guest PhD Student Asma Ben Hadj Hassen
In March 2026, the Forum for Africa Studies is hosting Asma Ben Hadj Hassen, PhD candidate in Social Anthropology at Bayreuth University and the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies. Since 2025, she is an early career scholar affiliated to the Forum.
Asma’s research focuses on migration, gender, and border regimes. She has done fieldwork in Côte d’Ivoire, Tunisia, and France. In October 2025, she participated in the Fieldwork Seminar in Decolonizing Research Methodologies in Uppsala, and on the island of Gotland.
During her stay, Asma will first and foremost work on her PhD. But she will also give a guest lecture at the African Studies course, and present a paper at the Sahel Symposium 24-25 March 2026. At this symposium, she will furthermore participate in a round-table with early career women researchers.
