Tero Toivanen is an environmental historian and political economist. His research interests revolve around the history of environmental ideas and the political economy of contemporary sustainability transformations. Toivanen is co-founder of the multidisciplinary BIOS Research Unit and senior research fellow at the Department of Economic and Social History, University of Helsinki. He is currently leading the three-year project "Climate Obstruction in Finland, 1990-2025" funded by the Kone Foundation (2025-2027).
