Public Health Ethics (7.5 credits) explores how we can weigh individual interests against the interests of public health and collective benefit. To what extent is health an individual responsibility? What is the fair allocation of societal resources? What are the ethical aspects of risk communication? These are some of the questions that become visible in debates about vaccination and health issues related to lifestyle, like obesity or smoking.

Ethics in Research, Writing and Communication (7.5 credits) discusses ethical theories, guidelines and laws governing research, good research practice, scientific misconduct, and ethics in academic writing as well as the ethics of science communication.

Neuroethics (7.5 credits) focuses on both applied neuroethics, for example, the ethical questions that arise from neuroscientific or neurotechnological advances; and on fundamental neuroethics, including questions concerning how knowledge of the brain's functional architecture and its evolution can deepen our understanding of human thought, including moral thought and judgment. The course also includes clinical perspectives, for example to what extent a patient with a neuro-degenerative disorder suffers from a reduced capacity for decision-making or reduced autonomy, or when a person with dementia can give informed consent to participate in scientific studies.
