Workshop: Transkribus: Handwritten text recognition
- Date: 10 October 2024, 14:15–16:00
- Location: English Park, 4-0027
- Type: Workshop
- Lecturer: Kara Kuebart
- Organiser: Centre for Digital Humanities and Social Sciences
This workshop will introduce you to Transkribus, a web-based tool for handwritten text recognition. It offers access to a multitude of specialized AI models for the recognition of handwritten texts at a low threshold (no programming skills needed), making it a useful tool for historians and archivists alike.
Transkribus can recognize text regions and baselines and provide a transcription, the quality of which depends on the selected model and the handwriting. It can also be used for manual annotations and to train new AI models.
In this workshop, we will practice using various functions of the Transkribus web-client. Historical sources of several European languages will be provided.
The app is free, as are the first 100 pages of text recognition per month. It does not need to be installed, but requires registration.
