AI to be integrated into Uppsala University's educational profile

The demand for skills in artificial intelligence (AI) is great and has been broadened to more professional groups. Now, WASP-ED, a new national development program for training in AI, has begun. "We will scale up our capacity to teach about artificial intelligence", says Anna Foka, senior lecturer at the Department of ABM at Uppsala University.

Artificial intelligence is being described in the research world as the new industrial revolution. It is about voice control and computer vision, but also about robots that cooperate, self-driving cars and, advanced visualization and interaction.

The Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation is now starting a new program that will increase the ability and capacity for Swedish universities to provide current and relevant education in AI. The program is led by Fredrik Heintz, professor at Linköping University, who notes,

"Now we get an opportunity to work nationally on educational issues linked to AI and other transformative technologies. Our goal is to support these [avenues of] education, not just the technical ones, and take a significant step forward in working with AI and what we call transformative technologies."
