About the Queer Seminar
Founded in 2008, the Queer Seminar at Uppsala University is an open interdisciplinary seminar based at the Centre for Gender Research, and organised by PhD students and researchers. The seminar aims to be a meeting point for everyone who is actively working with and/or are interested in the queer concept; in practice, theory and/or activism.
About the film
When Hanna moves to San Francisco, she falls in love with the heights, the atmosphere, and a vibrant queer scene. At a party she meets Chloe and Cyd who are both sex workers. Hanna is attracted both by her own sexual curiosity and the large sums of money her friends bring in when she, together with Chloe, starts her new life as a sex worker. But while she feels that she has found home, it rubs her that no one from Sweden knows what she does. Would they understand? Tove Pils explores a queer community that challenges the view of sex and work. Over several years, we follow, through Tove’s ever-present camera and Hanna’s striking emotional journey, a group of people who have found their home in each other, beyond the boundaries of bodies and work.
