Newly published thesis on children's perspectives, positions and ability to influence in preschool photo documentation.

How are children portrayed in preschool's photo documentation? This question is posed by Catarina Wahlgren in her newly published thesis.

Through analysis of photo documentation from several different preschools in Sweden, as well as interviews with preschool children about the photo documentation, Wahlgren shows how the idea of ​​"the competent child" is produced through the images, with a focus on production and performance. Care and play, on the other hand, were not nearly as visible in the preschool's photo documentation.

Wahlgren's research also shows how children create their own stories in interaction with the images produced by the preschool teachers. Their own descriptions were much less about the activities that were shown, and a greater focus was placed on the children's relationships with each other.
