Fulbright Scholar: Elina Nilsson
Elina Nilsson, senior lecturer at the Centre for Gender Research, has received the Fulbright Hildeman Fellowship in Scandinavian Studies, placed at Augustana College, Illinois, spring semester 2025.
Congratulations! What will you do as a Fulbright Scholar at Augustana College?
I will be teaching a course on “Reproduction and Family in the Scandinavian Welfare States” for students in the Scandinavian Studies program. This course will be open to students in other disciplines as well. I have a great opportunity to design the course and can therefore include my own research interests, which feels exciting. It will be interesting to teach at a liberal arts college , getting inspiration from a new environment, and meet different types of students – although the students at the Centre are great!
I also look forward to develop my research in the area of reproductive health care and carry out a binational comparison between US and Sweden on the attitude towards non-medical egg freezing and fertility preservation.
The Fulbright Hildeman Fellowship
In 1986, the Swedish Fulbright Commission established the Hildeman Fellowship in commemoration of Mr. Nils-Gustav Hildeman, to promote the study of Scandinavian language and area studies in the United States. The primary objectives of the Hildeman Fellowship are to encourage students and faculty in Scandinavian studies, to strengthen contacts between Swedish and American academics, and to increase interest in Sweden and Swedish area studies among American students and scholars in a variety of fields.
