First research meeting within Forte-funded program
Exactly one month after the outbreak of war in Ukraine and in the middle of one of Europe's largest migration flows in the post-war period, the first major research meeting took place in a new Forte-funded research program within Uppsala Immigration Lab (UIL).

Olof Åslund, Director UIL.
About 20 researchers from different disciplines came together and exchanged experiences and insights. Olof Åslund, Professor of Economics and Director of UIL, is pleased with the day.
- It was a very interesting and rewarding workshop, he says. The research environment is already active, and much is going on within the new program.
The workshop's program showed the broad range of research within UIL- participants learned more about how asylum seekers who have their applications rejected are affected by being offered financial support for returning to their home country, how social networks affect integration and how the quality of preschools affects children's cognitive development. On the workshop agenda was also to which countries refugees from Ukraine choose to flee, showing the relevance of the workshop program.

- Questions about migration and integration have been topical for a long time, but have come even more into focus with international developments. The title of the program "Labor market integration in transitional times" is even more relevant now than when we wrote the application almost a year ago, says Åslund.
