Title: Flexible transition probability model for assessing cost-effectiveness of breast cancer screening
Abstract: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Western women. Fortunately, organized screening has reduced breast cancer mortality and, consequently, the European Union has recommended screening with mammography for 50–69-year-old women. Recently it has been considered whether screening should be extended for 45–49- and 70–74-year-old women. In this talk we propose a new approach based on flexible stage distribution model to assess the cost-effectiveness of breast cancer screening under different screening strategies. We analyze the effects of possibly extending screening for 45–49- and 70–74-year-old women. Our study is based on the Finnish data, provided by the Finnish Cancer Registry.
