Welcome Ellen Vesterlund!

Ellen Vesterlund.
We are pleased to welcome Ellen Vesterlund as a new research assistant within the research group CIRCLE – Intervention research in health and care. Ellen will work within the research project INVOLVERA, which aims to develop a support programme for people with dementia and depression.
In her role as research assistant, Ellen will work on developing a study protocol for a so-called 'feasibility' study, which is a study to assess the feasibility of the project. INVOLVERA is led by assistant university lecturer Joanne Woodford and is carried out in close collaboration with relatives of people with dementia, who participate as research partners.
– In addition to working with the study protocol, I will also recruit research partners and handle administration in connection with project meetings, says Ellen.
Master’s degree in psychology
Ellen has recently completed her master's degree in psychology at Uppsala University and is thus well acquainted with the university.
– It feels good to start working here in Uppsala, says Ellen. I like the town and have long had a connection to it because my sister and my friends have lived here.
Her master's project focused on gaming and mental health.
– We conducted a qualitative study where we interviewed university students about their gaming habits and the connection with mental health and wellbeing, Ellen explains. We found, among other things, that there is a possible connection between problematic gaming behaviour and an introduction to gaming at a young age.
Ellen is considering to do a PhD in the future, and the position as a research assistant could be a first step on a career in research.
– I am looking forward to learning more about what it is like to work in research and gaining insights from colleagues with different backgrounds and perspectives.
Outdoor life and crafts
When Ellen is not working, she spends time with her partner and friends. She likes to be out in nature, especially hiking and kayaking. Another interest is arts and crafts.
– I took a one-year course in arts and crafts at Wik's folk high school a few years ago, where I studied painting, sculpture, and printing techniques. Creating with my hands is a way for me to relax, says Ellen with a calm smile.
