Workshop with public advisory group in the INVOLVERA project

In November, Frida Svedin, Ida Österman Menander, and Joanne Woodford organised a workshop with the INVOLVERA public advisory group to co-write a scientific article. The public advisory group consists of informal caregivers of people with dementia who are involved as public contributors in the INVOLVERA project.
Co-writing of scientific article with public advisory group
In the INVOLVERA project, we have carried out a series of studies with people with dementia, informal caregivers, health and social care professionals, and non-profit dementia and caregiver organizations in Sweden to develop a support programme for people with dementia and depression. The INVOLVERA public advisory group have been involved in helping the research team to interpret and make sense of the findings of these studies, and co-design the support programme.
During the workshop, public advisory group members provided feedback on the first draft of a scientific article on the experiences, processes, and impact of involving the public advisory group and how we can expand the group in the future, to involve people with dementia. The article will later be published in a scientific journal. In the workshop, public advisory group and research group members discussed how the article can be improved, as well as how the results can be disseminated to a wider audience, e.g., to other informal caregivers and people with dementia.
I am very happy that the workshop went so well, says PhD Student Frida Svedin. The workshop was really active and collaborative, with everyone sharing their thoughts and ideas on how to improve the manuscript.
The workshop was truly wonderful – having the opportunity to meet and work together in person was incredibly valuable. The feeling of being part of something bigger, something that will be help others feels amazing, one public contributor says.
Grant from the Geriatric Foundation
The workshop was financed by a grant that Frida Svedin has been awarded from the Geriatric Foundation from which she was awarded 75 000 SEK. The funding will also be used to co-author another scientific article in which the public advisory group and researchers will describe their experiences of the co-writing process, and communicate the results at the Alzheimer's Association conference in Toronto in 2025. The Principal Investigator for the INVOLVERA project is Joanne Woodford.
