In October, U-CARE’s PhD candidate Christina Reuther will present a poster at the Congress of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP 2025), one of the world’s leading conferences on childhood cancer. This year’s congress takes place in Amsterdam, 20–23 October.
Presentation about public contribution to develop the CHANGE-pilot trial
Christina Reuther will share results from a study about involving parents in contributing to the CHANGE-pilot trial. Within the project, a group of parents with personal experience, called the Parent Advisory Board, took part in workshops where they shared their perspectives and provided feedback. Their input helped develop important parts of the study, such as how parents should be invited to take part, what questions to ask, which outcomes should be measured, and how the intervention should be delivered.
To better understand their experiences, Christina and her colleagues also interviewed parents in the Parent Advisory Board and two coordinators working with the board, and kept a log of the suggestions made during the workshops.
– Our study looks at how parents can be actively involved in shaping research, says Christina Reuther. We asked them what worked well, what could be improved, how they felt about the process, and how the group dynamics were.

Looking forward to SIOP 2025
Christina is excited to share the results at SIOP.
– I really look forward to meeting other researchers within the same field. I believe that public contribution can play an important role in reducing research waste. Hopefully, our study can inspire others to incorporate public contribution in their future research.
