Earlier this week, U-CARE Guest Professor Shaun Treweek gave a presentation to the the national ALF steering group, which oversees collaboration between the Swedish government and seven regions on physician education and clinical research.
Shaun highlighted the importance of designing clinical trials with equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in mind, focusing on age, sex, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and location.
– Researchers need to think more carefully about who should be in their trial, and design accordingly. Without that, there’s a danger we’ll conclude that our results speak for everyone who could benefit when they only speak for some, says Shaun Treweek.
During his presentation, he also emphasized the importance of working with patients and the public to create effective recruitment and retention strategies.
