U-CARE researcher and physiotherapist Kine Johansen appears on P4 Göteborg, where she talks about children’s motor development and risks associated with excessive screen usage.

In the programme, Kine Johansen explains that motor development is about skills that need to be practised, and that we learn best when we are motivated.

– The brain functions best when it is working towards a goal and finds its own solutions to problems, for example through movement. To succeed, it is important to start at an appropriate level of difficulty, says Kine Johansen.

In the interview, she also highlights challenges related to screen time.

– What screens take away is time to practise our motor skills, from using our hands to walking up stairs and running.
