UPPMAX rejoins the SNIC Science Cloud
UPPMAX happily rejoins the HPC2N and C3SE cloud regions in the SNIC Science Cloud (SSC) project. SSC offer Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) free of charge for Swedish PIs and their collaborators.
The benefits of a community research cloud is increased flexibility where users have total control over operating system and software environments. The UPPMAX region, called Dis (Swedish word for fog or haze), is the successor of Smog and built on the recently decommissioned Tintin cluster. Dis consists of ~3500 vCPUs and offers compute nodes up to 64GB of memory. UPPMAX also offers object storage for storing larger data sets.
If you wish to leverage or investigate the cloud for your research, please have a look at http://cloud.snic.se for information on how to apply, and where the next SSC workshop will take place.
