Registration open to Hands on introduction to SNIC Science Cloud

Welcome to a short hands on introduction to SNIC Science Cloud from the “beginner’s user/developer” point of view.

Time:24 October, 10:15 – 11:00 and 11:15 – 12:00

Welcome to a short hands on introduction to SNIC Science Cloud (SSC) from the “beginner’s user/developer” point of view.

The SNIC Science Cloud is a project run by the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing. The goal of the project is to investigate if and how cloud resources should be provided as a complement to the more traditional HPC-resources. SSC is made up of nationally distributed hardware, contributed as OpenStack Regions. Each region is hosted by one of the partner centers (HPC2N,UPPMAXC3SE).

During the workshop you can learn how to use the SSC facilities provided by SNIC, what capacities are offered and how to apply for a project that will give you an access to the SSC. The workshop is organized in two parts:

Brief introduction to SSC

  • Brief overview of the infrastructure and the organization.
  • Overview of the capabilities and features provided by SSC.
  • Quick demonstration of basic usage of the cloud – building and running an interactive virtual machine running Linux.

Hand on session where participants will have the chance to test-drive the SSC themselves

  • Building of virtual machines
  • Securing and accessing the build environment
  • Maintaining virtual storage

You are welcome and see how you can use the SNIC Science Cloud in your research and workflow. Please bring your own computer if you want to participate the interactive sessions. If you join the hand on session you will have the chance to experience and experiment with the cloud for four more weeks after the workshop.

Please fill the following form to confirm your interest to participate in the introductory or/and the interactive sessions – you will need to create/have an SNIC User account in SUPR. Instructions will be provided accordingly.
