UAC student Ottilia Andersson is awarded the Iris Scholarship

Ottilia Andersson, PhD student at our center, has been awarded the Iris Scholarship for Aspiring Women in Sweden - a recognition of her commitment to tackling one of today’s greatest global health challenges: antibiotic resistance.

This scholarship, awarded by the Iris Jonzén-Sandblom and Greta Jonzén Foundation, supports the education of aspiring women in Sweden. Ottilia, who is pursuing her PhD studies in Medicinal Chemistry, received the scholarship in recognition of her dedication to antibiotic research. This scholarship granted 48 applications out of over 900 submissions in this 2025 edition.

Ottilia's research focuses on finding new antibiotics and antibacterial compounds that could one day become treatment for infections.

She plans to use the scholarship to attend the ICARe course in Annecy, France. ICARe is known as one of the best international courses on antibiotic resistance. Each year, it brings together top students, researchers, and experts from both academia and industry for an intense program of lectures and discussions. By participating in iCARE this October, Ottilia will gain advanced knowledge and build international connections that will strengthen her future research.

We at the Uppsala Antibiotic Center are thrilled to see her achievements recognized. Ottilia’s work reflects the ambition and talent that drives the next generation of researchers tackling antibiotic resistance.
