The Socio-Economic Conditions for Swedish Antibiotics Research 1980-2015
Over the period 1980-2015, industrial research in antibacterial medicine saw significant reduction, with mergers and cost cutting measures in the pharmaceutical industry limiting the number of major companies active in this area. At the same time, the academic research spheres went through significant changes, with increasingly precarious working conditions and an ever more acute need to ‘publish or perish’. This project aims to study how the combined effect of these trends influenced the ability to conduct research on antibacterial medicine at Swedish universities over this period.
